Apple Just Rolls On In Music World
Apple continues to prove it doubters that it will continue to roll on into the next century. With things such as the iPod, and iPhone there looks like nothing will slow down the Apple juggernaut. Let’s look at some of the ways that they dominate the digital market and continue too.
The iPod is probably the one item that Apple has introduced that no one has really come close to matching. Sure, many people introduce copycats to compete with it and it still continues to roll on as one of the best seller year after year. This even after it’s usually more expensive than all the other models out there, but the main reason for the long staying power it the way they are made. You will be hard pressed to find a more durable player anywhere. This is an Apple trademark that continues today.
Once the iPod seen great success the iTunes platform naturally would do just as well, but in 2006 iTunes would average around 5 millions songs a day which is an average of 58 songs every second. It’s hard to beat those numbers no matter who you are. This is one part of Apple’s business that has staying power and will be around for a long time. What has really helped this platform is podcasting. Most podcasts are free from apple, but it brings in traffic and many times they will buy something while they are there. This has to make Apple owners smile every day. ITunes Wi-Fi was introduced in 2007 and I’m sure 2008 will bring many changes for them. The biggest problem they will run into is an increase in more people entering the market. If they are going to stay on top they will have to keep making innovations and introducing new products.
After Apple introduced the iPod and iTunes you would think nothing else would be possible, but Steve Jobs the Apple CEO had other ideas and out came the iPhone. People stood in line for days to be one of the first people in their neighborhood and office to have one. So, whets so special about this thing called the iPhone. It’s a do everything mobile unit that lets you surf the Internet. Send emails and pictures. Watch videos and make phone calls all from a small unit that can fit in a shirt pocket. I never imagined the scope of how big this mobile unit would be, but it has. This is just another addition to a company who knows what the consumer wants and they deliver. It’s a shame more companies don’t do this.
What’s next for Apple? AppleTV is something that they are still trying to perfect and probably will be their next winner. They are always working on new things to make our lives easier so don’t be surprised to see more innovations in the future from them. Probably though the thing that they will be working the most on is their core products. Apple has never stood still and they want people to realize they have the best. This means many additional features will be added to the iPod most likely and the iPhone will definitely get upgrades as well.
Competition is something else that Apple will need to keep it’s one on. Microsoft introduce their second installment of the Zune which didn’t really set the world on fire, but it’s only a matter of time before another company penetrates the iPod market and gives Apple a run for their money. Everyone thought the Zune was that product, but poor timing and customer service has been lacking and no real good places to download things for it has really slowed its progress. That’s very shocking considering Microsoft prides itself on customer service and competing.
The future looks very bright for Apple, but it can’t stand pat. If it does people will eventually get tired and look for something new. They have products that people love so that shouldn’t really be a problem. ITunes though could be in for the toughest time as more people enter the digital downloading arena. With the amount of money that can be made there is why more will enter the fray. It’s easy to set up and the rewards can be great. The iPhone will also see increased competition as more companies also enter the fray. The iPod though is very safe as no company has been able to stop Apples growth in that department.
Apple will continue to roll along until someone stops them. It doesn’t look like that will happen for a very long time. Luckily for the consumer that is good news as their products should just get better over time. This means we are the real winners. With products like the iPod, iPhone and iTunes look for Apple to continue to be supreme in the digital arena.
